The Tennis
Group
The
Andorran climate is ideal for year-round outdoor or indoor tennis, and there are
a number of venues where tennis can be played, without necessarily being a
member of a club. Fees on the whole are
reasonable, and this situation makes tennis one of the most enjoyable and
sociable ways of keeping fit.
The objective of the group, which was formed in 1996, is to provide
information for those interested in playing tennis, including listing of names
and telephone numbers of other players with whom games can be arranged,
available tennis venues, and any other tennis related matters where the group
may be of help.
We have quarterly social tournaments. Everybody plays with
everybody against everybody for mini matches lasting a minimum of time to
prevent embarassment for everybody.
Mid winter warmups watching the
Australian open in amiable surroundings.
Get to go to the Godo tournament
in
Friday knockup with friends (only
during Summer months). No scoring allowed. Strictly
for beginners or old hands who have not had it in a long time.
It must be made clear that the group only provides information, and
that it is up to individual members to use this information to arrange their
own games.
Until
now, the group has acted solely as an information source, but should any
existing or potential member wish to assist in organising occasional or regular
social tennis meets, tennis tournaments, or co-ordinating group visits to
international tennis tournaments, this, of course, would be welcomed.
There
are at present twenty-eight players on the contact list, available to anyone
wishing to contact them for tennis, but other members are invited to add their
names.

CLUB REPORT 2009 SEASON
Another most enjoyable season in the sunshine and against
the glorious mountain backdrop in the fresh air. Who could ask for more?
Our new
season on the two super 'all weather' courts at the Hotel Coma in Ordino started in mid-April and went on until the weather
closed in around mid November when members started to turn their attention to
polishing their skiing gear ahead of the ski-season.
The courts
have now settled down nicely since they were renewed by the Hotel a couple of
years ago. The sand filled matting certainly reduces wear tear on limbs some of
which are older than others! Also, if you are unlucky enough to slip over, the
landing is a good deal softer than a hard court.
We usually
have enough players each week on a Friday morning to play a series of doubles
whereby each set comprises of the best of
five games. This gives everyone the opportunity to usually play three/four sets
or fifteen/twenty games, if they wish, in the one and a half hour session. Then
we retreat to the bar to replace lost liquids and enjoy convivial chat.
Hotel Coma
has recently removed the large tree which previously overhung the bottom
court and shed it's leaves and seeds onto the court, so there will be no
excuses for all those 'unplayable balls' that previously took a sudden and
unexpected deviation!
Depending
on the weather ,we expect the 2010 season to commence on Friday April 16th at
11am.The cost is expected to be at least the same as last year ie €3 per player per session including balls, although,
this may increase slightly if Hotel Coma puts up it's hourly hire rate. New
members are warmly welcome and if you wish to find out more contact Ken or
Carole Webb on ken.carole.webb@gmail.com
or come and join us one Friday morning.
